Ubisense deployment in UCD
Business Week is carrying a press release from Ubisense, a company that develops real-time location-aware systems.
Ubisense have installed their system in the Systems Research Group in UCD, headed up by Professor Paddy Nixon.
I had an opportunity to visit Paddy recently, and got to see the system first-hand. With the system, each user carries a fob, about the size of a small mobile phone. Their movements can then be tracked to within a few centimeters.
Paddy and his group intend to use this system as the foundation for a number of location-aware applications. However, the post-grads in the lab had already figured out how to use the system to tell them whether Paddy was in his office, or on the prowl around their lab!
