It’s official

Yesterday, SFI announced the appointment of Prof. Mark Keane as the Temporary Director General. Mark is (or at least was) the ICT Director within SFI (and my boss). Readers of my blog will have been following the story surrounding the departure of the previous Director General, Bill Harris (see here, here and here). As of now, the SFI board has not made a permanent appointment to the DG position, and in fact has re-advertised recently.
The Board of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) has appointed Prof Mark Keane as Director General on a temporary basis. Prof Keane has been Director of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at SFI for the past two years.

SFI has been actively engaged since last November in an international recruitment process to appoint a new Director General. As a result of this process, SFI did identify suitable candidates, however, the SFI Board have not yet confirmed an appointment. In the interim, Prof Keane will be the Director General of the Foundation.
The SFI website has the official press release. The story has also been picked up by Electric News.
