New Director General

I can’t believe that I haven’t blogged about this already – must have slipped my mind.

As most interested parties will already know, SFI has a new Director General – Dr. Frank Gannon. Frank is the former head of EMBL

Here’s the official SFI press release.

Frank is due to take up his post in early July.

Positive experience at the passport office

The family and I are off on holidays shortly. Since 2004 it is necessary for all children to have their own passports, rather than being on their parents’ ones. Naturally, we left it too late to get around to organising the passport for our youngest, so I had to drop into the passport office yesterday.

Given some of the horror stories I’ve heard in the past, I was expecting to have to stay there all day to get served. Nothing could be further from the truth. When I arrived, there were about 45 people ahead of me in the queue. I took my number and sat down ready for a long day. However, with 8 counters running at full tilt, I was seen in about 30 minutes. The guy at the counter checked all my documentation, and I was on my way within another 5.

Overall, an excellently efficient service. Kudos to the passport office guys.

London 2012? WTF?!

I’ll have to add my voice to what appears to be everybody else on the web in pointing out how ridiculous the London 2012 logo is.

One other blog I read pointed out that this jumble of nonsense is supposed to spell 2012. I had to do a double-take to recognise it.

Not an auspicious start.
