More from the AIC
As well as the Google project that I mentioned previously, the AIC has established a collaboration with Microsoft in a micro camera project.
From irishdev
Microsoft has chosen a DCU research team to take part in a project to create tiny cameras that can record a searchable digital picture diary of your entire day.
Microsoft Research in Redmond, Seattle has created a “SenseCam” a tiny camera combined with an “accelerometer”, a device that makes the camera aware of a person’s movements. These micro cameras can be designed into jewellery, buttons or broaches to be unobtrusive or hidden.
The same story is also reported on RTE.
Both stories report that:
an important practical application of the research is for Alzheimer patients. With a ‘SenseCam’, patients who may not be able to recall where they were or what they did, will have an accurate record to consult.
This is another example of a growing interest in the whole area of computer assisted living, whereby technology can assist and/or monitor people who are less than fully able-bodied in some way. As the population of the western world ages, this type of technology could become critical in the next decade or two.
